One of the most frequently asked questions from potential biorb customers, and current biorb owners is, What is the Biorb Service Kit Filter, and will it fit my aquarium? This article addresses that question, and briefly talks about the other two biorb filters, the biorb no algae kit, and the biorb first aid kit.
Think back to when you first opened your baby biorb aquarium. Excitedly you read the basic directions, set it up, fill it with water, and turn on the pump and light. It’s all set up, now I just have to cycle the aquarium and add fish, and the rest is a piece of cake, so you think.
Hopefully you are still excited about your Biorb Aquarium and it continues to be as fun for you as when you set it up. The key to a healthy aquarium is regular maintenance and water changes, which should only take a few minutes. If you regularly (1-2 weeks) change some of the water in your biorb tank, it should only take 5-10 minutes every time. When maintaining a fish tank becomes a hassle is when we wait several months to maintain it at all and the algae builds up so thick you almost have to replace the aquarium. Performing regular water changes and replacing your biorb service kit will help to avoid that situation.
The Biorb Service Kit is a unique and patented filter made specifically for the bio orb and bi ube aquarium line. The filter is home to both mechanical and chemical filtration that help keep your tank clean in addition to water stabilizers and a sponge filter that helps to trap fish waste as water is cycled through the filter. The mechanical and chemical filtration components of the service kit have about an 8 week active life, depending on your aquarium set up, which is why Reef One recommends changing your biorb service kit every 1-2 months.
The answer here is yes, the service kit fits every bi orb or biube aquarium made by Reef One, which is great news because that means you don’t need to worry about buying the wrong filter size. Just find the biorb service kit and it will work with your biorb or biube fish tank.
The No Algae Filter is a temporary filter that should only be used for 1-2 weeks at a time and works great with green, not brown algae. If using the Biorb No Algae Filter doesn’t help your aquarium you might want to try feeding your fish less, moving your aquarium to a place where it gets less sunlight, and performing more frequent, partial water changes.
The Biorb First Aid Filter is designed to help combat most typical fish ailments and comes with two packs of fish medicine to put into your tank. It should only be used for a short period (about a week) and if your fish don’t get better you might want to research what they are sick with and find a medication specifically for that ailment.
The Biorb Service Kit is the basic filter for ALL biorb tanks or bi ube aquariums, including the baby biorb, biube pure, and biorb life tanks. It performs mechanical and chemical filtration through its design and has a sponge filter to trap fish waste. The active components of the service kit have a 6-8 week life, which is why Reef-One recommends changing the service kit every 1-2 months to help keep your aquarium in its optimal condition.

The Biorb comes with everything you need to set up your aquarium, but what will you need after it is set up? The list isn’t very long, but searching for the different Reef One products you need to keep your biorb healthy can take a little while, especially if you don’t know where to look. You won’t need a lot of extra supplies to take care of your Biorb, but there are a couple products that we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that will save you a lot of time and headache when cleaning your biorb. They are listed below
Biorb Siphon Hose – The Siphon hose is probably the most helpful cleaning tool you can buy for your biorb. If you don’t have a siphon hose you will have to scoop the water out of your aquarium with a cup, which is a pain, but also doesn’t get any of the fish waste off the bottom of your aquarium, so really without a siphon hose you might think you are cleaning your aquarium, but really all you are doing is letting fish waste build up on the bottom of your aquarium, and putting new water in your tank.
The Biorb Siphon Hose is also better than a regular aquarium Siphon because it has a pump. Since several of the Biorb’s are not very big it isn’t realistic to use a siphon hose where you have to completely submerse it in the water to start the siphon. The siphon simply wouldn’t fit in the aquarium. With the Biorb Siphon Hose all you have to do is drop one end in the aquarium, squeeze the blue pump a few times and the siphon will start automatically! Then you can proceed to siphon the fish waste from the bottom of your aquarium, enabling you to thoroughly clean your tank.
Biorb Magnetic Algae Cleaner –
The Algae Cleaner isn’t a necessity, and you can clean the algae off your tank without it, however, it will save you time and hassle. It is much easier than rubbing the inside of your entire tank with your hand and a cloth. Using the algae cleaner also agitates the water less than cleaning with your hand, which means less stress for your fish. How would you feel if you were the fish in your tank as a huge hand swirled vigorously around your tank scrubbing algae off the sides? Yeah, that’s what we think too, that’s one reason why we recommend the Biorb Algae Cleaner.
Another reason we recommend it is because it is made specifically for the curved shape of biorb. Regular aquarium magnet cleaners are rectangular and won’t work on the curved shape of the Biorb. Biorb had MagFloat design this magnet cleaner specifically for them, so it works in regular aquariums and the Biorb Fish Tanks.
Remember though, the best way to clean algae in your aquarium is to prevent it! Don’t put your tank in direct sunlight, don’t overfeed your fish, and do regular water changes.
Jungle Quick Dip Water Quality Test Strips
For your fish, performing water quality testing is a life or death situation. With your biorb aquarium it is essential to know the PH, Ammonia, Nitrate, & Nitrite. If the levels of these chemicals in your tank are at certain levels it can kill your fish. If you are having problems with sick fish, having fish dying, or just setting up your tank assessing the level of these chemicals in your water will help you diagnose and solve any problems you have.
We highly recommend these test strips because they will help you to know the water conditions in your tank quickly. You can buy water test kits that have drops and test tubes that you take samples with, but we know you are probably busy, and if you can save a few minutes by not having to shake several test tubes of water, that’s great. Testing your water quality is a must, and these test strips make it easy & fast!

What the Biorb Intelligent LED Offers

Big Differences between the Regular Biorb Light & the Intelligent LED Light
The regular Biorb light requires replacement light bulbs, which don’t last as long as the Biorb LED Light.
Regular light only has on/off setting so the brightness of the light doesn’t adjust throughout the day/night for your fish.
The Intelligent Light has a higher peak output than the regular Biorb light (The Intelligent Light has a peak output of 6,500k with a broad spectrum either side of that. This creates a rich blue/white light ideal for an aquarium)
Summary
